Here are ten tips from miscellaneous safety advice folder, no theme, but all of them are good: 1) Power tool lock-on buttons are good for allowing you to ease your grip slightly, however, if you're too tired to hold the on/off trigger down, perhaps you're too tired to be using the tool. 2) People have been resuscitated after "drowning" up to 25 minutes later. Never give up attempts at resuscitation until professional help arrives. 3) If there is a furniture fire in your home, do NOT try to take the burning furniture outside. If the fire cannot be put out easily, evacuate. 4) Turn the volume down before you switch on your personal stereo and then adjust to a comfortable level. Sudden exposure to a blast of sound is particularly damaging. 5) If you come upon a "vicious" animal--especially a dog, avoid eye-to-eye contact. Stand still and speak firmly (as the owner might) using clear commands such as "No!" "Stay there" or "Sit!" If the dog still seems ready to attack, try using a "good boy" gentle voice to talk to the dog. 6) Never put paintbrushes in your mouth to "put a point on them." Depending on the types of pigment involved, the cumulative effects could be extremely harmful--even fatal. The most dangerous pigments include almost all metal/metal oxide colors and lamp black. Aniline dyes are also poisonous. 7) Though you shouldn't remove clothing sticking to a burn, you should remove jewelry and clothing which will constrict if swelling should start. Always seek medical attention if the victim has third-degree burns or large second-degree burns (1.5 in. across or more). 8) If a square-ended screwdriver shows wear and tear--reshape the tip, or ask a dealer to have it done for you. A worn tip increases the chance of slipping or fouling the head of the screw, producing sharp burrs and possibly injuring the person using the screwdriver. 9) ALWAYS hold the handrail when riding an escalator. If there is a power failure or someone presses the emergency stop button, you and everyone else who isn't holding on may fall. 10) Plastic plumbing is becoming more common. This is not effective as a means of grounding your domestic electricity. If all or even part of your plumbing has been replaced with plastic, your mains supply may no longer be grounded. Check!
